Dear Ms. (my full name here)

we want to thank you for contacting us. Please accept our sincere apology for the delay in response to your feedback. This delay was due to technical difficulties that have been addressed. Please be assured that we take all customer feedback seriously.
In response to your email here is the coupon policy.

I was just thinking about this yesterday and was about to send another inquiry....  Well, a little vague if you ask me.   It is a direct cut and paste from my email and Im sure you could get your own copy if you emailed them, and hopefully they have their technical issues straightened out!!

I do remember someone asking me about Albertsons not taking Internet coupons, it doesn't mention that.  I requested a 'copy of the coupon policy', may being more specific would have helped.  Oh, well!

Baby slippers. Happy Frugal Friday!

Okay, okay, here they are. I made my first pair of baby slippers. I used the really easy pattern here and simplified it a little as I was using fleece and did not double the layers where suggested, except the sole.

I also did not do the proper button hole, didn't want to worry about putting the specified presser foot on my machine, I just cut little slits. Instead of embellishing them with a sewn on design I just tied a ribbon to the elastic in front. And I used 'puffy paint' (remember that stuff, Im thinking early 90's?) to make the soles slip resistant. Very easy!

I love them so much and can't wait for her to wear them, I am saving them for her birthday!!

One of the best parts about these slippers is that they were made from mere scraps.  Basically left over fleece!!  So, if I had already had the 'puffy paint' (which I had to buy at about $1) I would have spent nothing on these!!

Good luck!

this is how I feed myself.

Our little baby is becoming so much more independent. She now wants to feed herself with a spoon. Not an easy task for a little one. I gave her a mix of peas (her favorite), brown rice and refried beans. She loved it and made quite the mess.

Thrifty Stain Remover

Dye.

Yes, RIT Dye.  There are a few items of clothing in our house that I have been unable to remove stains from.  One item being a really flattering cotton peasanty type blouse from Banana Republic, as well as a few baby items that has baffled me equally.

I decided to give dying a go.  I figured, whats to loose?

I bought the dye at Michaels (craft store) for under $2, I think it was on a 30% off sale or something, affordable in my book.  I then brought it home and followed the directions, pretty close.  My chosen method was to simmer my clothing in a large pot (my soap pot!) as my washer is a front load and that 'easy' method was out.

The parts of this where I failed to follow directions were; the part where it said to add 1 full cup of salt.  Well, I dont think we have a full cup on hand so I just added about 1/2 cup.  And, it said one packet of dye per every 3 yards of fabric, bah, thats only a suggestion!!  I crammed that sucker full.

I did stir throughout most of the process as recommended and added the Tbs of detergent (strange???) to my brew.  Regardless, my clothing came out a little 'tye dyed' looking (not counting the socks and pants I actually tye dyed), but, I think they all look really good!

After my 30 minute timer went off I carefully removed the clothing items to the sink with tongs so I could reserve what dye was left.  Strangely, the second batch dyed a lot lighter (see tank top in photo).  It it almost an entirely different color.  Its as if the clothing sucked the dye right out of the water.  Fascinating.

This picture only shows a portion of what I dyed with one packet.  All items included;
2 onsies
2 bibs
1 baby pants
1 baby polo
1 baby socks
1 large washcloth
1 tank top
1 peasant blouse
2 underwear
1 nursing bra (okay, I was just looking for things to dye at this point!)

Not bad for under $2!!

I won I won I won I won!!

So I get this call earlier today from our Real Estate Agent telling me that the buyers of our house called her....(my heart sinks to my stomach.  What, did something happen to the house?  Are they not happy with it, oh no, oh no, oh no...) ...to state that they received a FedEx in our name.  Oh, okay.  Thank God.

My husband volunteers to swing by the old place and pick it up while getting our friday night pizza(more on that later).  When he brings home the package I discover that it is addressed to me.  Whaaaat?  So I open it and this is what I discover;

What a huge surprise!  I am still excited and I cannot wait to try some of these products!! Thanks Nivea!

Baby Magazine

One of my daughters favorite things to do is go through all my 'Parents' and 'Baby' magazines and look at and talk to the baby pictures. While it is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen she wreaks havoc on these magazines I have yet to read.

I decided to make a magazine just for her.
It was simple. I just cut out a bunch of baby pictures and glued them to pieces of a cut up cardboard box. Next, I hole punched them and tied it all with a ribbon. Now she has something, just like mommys, of her very own.

Coconut Curry Carrot Soup

Quite a title but oh so yummy. I have been working on modifying this recipe for a while now and have come up with one that is really tasty. My husband loved it and he isn't even the carrot enthusiast that I am.
all soft and ready to puree

Coconut Curry Carrot Soup

1 large 2 lb bag of organic carrots (they taste much better)
1 onion
2 small baking apples (or one regular, peeled?)
2 med sized red potatoes
4 veggie boullion cubes
2-3 cloves garlic, or a heaping tsp of crushed
1 tsp crushed ginger if you have it or less amount of dried would do as well
2 Tbs Hot Madras curry powder (or whatever you have)
2 tsp salt (more or less to taste)
1 tsp black pepper, or next time I will try white pepper
1 can coconut milk (reserve 2-3 Tbs for garnish if you remember)

next time I will garnish with coconut milk

Wash and scrub all vegetables, don't peel except for the onion and apple if skin seems tough. Coarsely chop all in large chunks. Place in large stock pot and cover with water, about 1/2 to 1'' over veggies.

Bring to a boil and simmer till fork tender, maybe 1-2 hours??

When soft, add seasonings and blend with a stick blender. A regular blender would work for this as well, it would just be a lot more work, and I don't like extra work!!

Once smooth to your liking bring to a simmer. This soup seems to taste better after simmering. When you are ready to eat turn off the heat, add coconut milk and stir in.

Serve hot. It would be nice to garnish with a swirl of coconut milk on top as well. Next time I will!!

Carrot Harvest

Well it does not look like a lot now, but trust me, there are a lot of carrots there! Over the weekend I pulled the rest of my carrots from our old house before the closing happened Monday. Sorry guys, you are not getting my carrots too!

They are so sweet and yummy. Perfect and crisp eaten raw and my daughter loves them steamed. I love nothing more than serving my family safe and wholesome foods I have grown myself in local organic soil.

I cannot wait to get my garden started at this house!

Be on the lookout for these carrots in my future posts!

No washing Diapers for 1 week!

Thats right, I will be giving up washing diapers for a week.  I love my bumGenius more than any other diaper.  They are so cute I just love to see them poking up above my daughters 'baby low rise' pants.  Washing them takes almost no longer than a regular load of laundry.  They keep her drier than disposables and protect her soft skin against diaper rash.  The 'one size' diaper saves us so much money, we will never have to buy diapers again no matter how many children we choose to have and what ages/sizes they are.

But, I just can't handle it right now.  We have moved into our new house, boxes are piled everywhere, you've seen it before yourself Im sure.  In addition to our move we have 2 rooms unlivable, or, under construction. The home we purchased was a foreclosure and has been unoccupied since January, it was also left in poor shape.  Such a shame for such a very nice house.  My daughters room had a big spill that was left to mold the carpet, baseboard and part of a wall.  We have had to rip everything out, carpet tacks and all.  We are now, after a lot of cleaning, in the process of painting and putting her room back together.  Keep in mind the 3rd bedroom is in just as bad of shape and we will attack that when we can....

Soooo, everything that is supposed to be in those 2 rooms will be piled up in our living room, furniture included, until we have a place to put it all.

Laundry??  Not going to happen right now.  I went to the Commissary and purchased the cheapest pack of diapers I could find; Pure'N Gentle 4.99 for a 40 pack, she will be a size 3 (something that means nothing to us cloth-diapering moms).

I have used a few different types of disposable diapers in the past, I actually used them until she was 3 mos old, and these remind me of Luvs, I think.  They seem really thin but claim to be scent and dye free, at least the liner is (??).  I remember preferring Seventh Generation, then Pampers, then Huggies, THEN Luvs.  So, we will see how it goes!!

Im sorry Environment!!
